Is Parental Control Software Still Important? Yes!
While Dateline's 'To Catch a Predator' hasn't made the news in a little while, it's still important for parents whose kids go online to have quality parental control software.
And that point couldn't be made any clearer than in the article presented at WLKY.
Based in Louisville, Kentucky, WLKY was "catching Internet predators" long before Dateline was snagging them. And if their statistics are true, then parental control software isn't just important, it's mandatory.
According to the article, thanks to watchful parents and law enforcement "from 2000 to 2006, there was a 21 percent increase in arrests of adults actually soliciting youth online for sex."
But still, over that same period of time there was a 381% increase in arrests of adults who solicited undercover investigators posing as children.
That's right, 381% more online sexual predators approaching kids when they log online.
If they prove anything, these stats prove that parental control software is as effective as it is important. Parents who watch over their kids when they log on are more likely to catch a predator before that person can trick a naive child.
One thing to keep in mind is the attraction that social networking sites have for both kids and predators. Today 33% of online predators approach kids in spaces like Myspace or Facebook, so parents need to make sure that their software has a special function that allows them to monitor social networking sites.
